The Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (LSSR) was an early and short-lived Soviet republic declared on December 16, 1918 by the provisional revolutionary government, led by Vincas Mickevičius-Kapsukas. The state lacked any meaningful support amongst ethnic Lithuanians ceased to exist on February 27, 1919, when it was merged with the Soviet Socialist Republic of Belarus (SSRB) and the Belarusian People's Republic (BNR) to form the Lithuanian–Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, commonly referred to at the time as "Litbel".
