The state owned "Riga International Airport", largest airport in the Baltic states, was built in 1973 by the Soviets as an alternative to the ageing Spilve Airport, which had become outdated.

It is directly connected to over 80 destinations in 30 countries and the magazine GatewayRiga is available for visitors and passengers at Riga airport. Riga International Airport is in Mārupe municipality, near the capital, Riga.
