The local Ingerian Finns set up a new, anti-communist/Russian homeland in eastern parts of northern Ingeria and in the south of the Karelian Isthmus, called the Republic of North Ingria ((Finnish: Pohjois-Inkeri) or Republic of Kirjasalo (Finnish: Kirjasalon tasavalta)) between 1919 and 1920. They wanted to join Finland, but became an autonomous soviet republic under the Finnish-Russian Peace Treaty of Tartu it became an autonomous Soviet region until the 1930s.
